I recently watched the movie Chicago 10, (a movie on the peace movement in the late 1960's), and was shocked by the treatment inside of the court room. I know that that was 40 years ago, but honestly, our 'free country' is shit. In the court room, the man was not allowed to represent himself through his constitutional rights. They actual tied him up and put a gag on his mouth so he could not defend himself! Then watching a documentary on Harvey Milk, (the first open homosexual to be elected into a political office in the late 1970's), i learned how shitty the system was during the trial of Dan white, (the man who shot Harvey and the Mayor of SF). After murdering two men, both in high political positions, White was only in prison for 5 years! This disgusted me to a point of nausea. The fact that he got off so easy was mainly because of one of the victims being homosexual. I hate that. You might argue that this was all was several years ago, but have we really improved? A 17 year old, practically legal, brought a knife to a girls house, then slit the girls throat in cold blooded murder. She then fled over an hour away before the police finally arrested her. After all of this, with witnesses and evidence to prove it, the girl was only sentenced to 6 years in prison.. with parole! Can you believe it?! Then a man who robs a store with a gun, does not physically harm anyone, is charged with a minimum of 11 years?! I'm not saying that he does not deserve it, after all, he did have my mother at gunpoint, but he didn't even kill any body!! Then he got almost double of what a murderer was sentenced!? Then, we still have laws to keep open homosexuals out of the Military, and even out of everyday workplaces! Did you know that in several states it is perfectly legal for an employer to fire his employee on the sole basis of that employee being LGBT, (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, or trans-gender). I recently learned that in Ohio that is legal.. in my own state! This is unacceptable. Granted, we do have the right to protest, and the right to have this website to freely post our opinions, but it all has guidelines. We need more people to break down these guidelines and demand the actual freedom we deserve. Not only the freedom to express, but for all of our human rights. Everyone is equal, and I believe our country should be preaching that, not the lies and myths behind things such as homosexuality.
